The afternoon of January 9th, our high school DECA team, the school’s competitive business club, left for a three-day conference. Without a moment of rest, the students from the roleplay section swiftly began a test that they had been tirelessly preparing for since the very beginning of the school year. The exam, composed of 100 questions over 90 minutes, was to test each student’s knowledge on a specific event they’d each chosen and had begun studying for months prior. The results from this test, in addition to a roleplay or written presentation score, determined each participant’s overall grade and ranking. Once the testing was over, the event concluded with a ceremony session where they introduced contestants for the next vice president position for the California DECA state leadership team. The main event, the role plays and presentations, began the next day, where students had either ten minutes to prepare a ten-minute scripted individual performance or thirty minutes to prepare a fifteen-minute group performance. Overall, it was a highly successful trip, and many of our students earned significant rewards. Special congratulations to Adithya Prem, who earned 2nd place overall in Entrepreneurship, Nicholas Alanen, who captured 3rd place overall in Entrepreneurship, and Eshan Patel, who won 3rd place overall in Personal Financial Literacy.
